Is Orienteering a Sport For Me?

If you enjoy the outdoors, even just occasional hikes, orienteering is the sport for you. If you are out to get a heavy workout, racing an orienteering course can certainly give you that (both mentally and physically)! At the same time, if you are just looking for an easy paced hike, orienteering events also attract many map-hikers, who walk the courses.

As for ability level, each meet has different courses for different levels. In the United States there are eight courses labeled by colors, from beginning to elite. The beginning level course (white) is short, usually around a mile long, while the elite level (blue) requires advanced orienteering skills and can be as long as 10 miles.There is a course for you no matter what your physical ability and orienteering ability.
